Jonathan Bridges

Construction Teacher

My educational background consists of a bachelor's degree in business management and a master’s degree in project management.  I have multiple certifications in many things.  Management, sales management, project management professionals, home builders’ association as well as the home builders’ institute.  I have multiple certifications in bush crafting and survival.  I was an instructor for a survival school in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Pennsylvania for 3 years.  I taught in the Smoky Mountains as well as the Rocky Mountains.  I completed my bachelor's degree and master’s degree at Colorado Technical University.

I have been teaching formally in a classroom setting for about 3 years total.

When I was instructing at CTU, I taught subjects like organizational management, project management, scheduling, budgeting, accounting, risk management, contract negotiation, contract drafting, closing procedures, business plan writing, and business law.

When I started instructing students in construction, I fully focused on the basics and moved into advanced techniques.  Starting out learning safety, OSHA, tools & materials, small woodworking projects.  Then moving into more advanced skills, including fine woodworking, finish carpentry, and finish trades.  Fundamentals are key.  Developing passions within the students so that they can find directions to follow once they complete the program.

The final project for the students at the end of the year was to fully complete a tiny home that was functional.

My teaching philosophy is a combination between progressivism and behaviorism.  I like being structured and firm but at the same time reward them for being creative and inventive.

My accomplishments as a teacher are the rewarding satisfaction I receive from the students that I impact the most after the year is over.  Knowing that some of the students I taught have moved into the trades with some of the companies I have worked for and are being successful.

My hobbies are riding motorcycles, mountain biking, playing music, camping, hunting elk and bears, teaching others how to survive in the wild, foraging for wild food and learning natural medicines.

The only thing I would like everyone to know about me is I like to help people that need real help.  Especially veterans or children that are being abused.  Being a big part of the community in many ways is very important to me.  Giving back to the community and people that helped me when I was in need.  Paying it forward.  And showing love to everyone because everyone deserves love.

What brought me to PTEC is GOD and I am certain that I was meant to be here.  It came at the perfect time, and I couldn’t have asked for more.

I have been married for 17 years in November and we have 3 children; one boy, and two girls.  We have two dogs, one cat, one tortoise and four ducks.

This will be my first year at PTEC and I am very excited to change lives for the better.

I am not a Colorado native; I was born in Southern Illinois and raised in middle Tennessee.
